A luxury yacht charter in Southern Chile and Patagonia is an absolutely unique and exotic, once-in-a-lifetime, experience. It has even made into our top 10 charter destination list.
There is a somewhat limited selection of motor yachts that could be called “luxury” yachts, however the vessels that we represent and recommend fall into that category. The charter experience is fully crewed and inclusive but not inexpensive. The airfares from the United States or Europe are not inexpensive either. So the whole exercise is basically not for the faint-hearted..!!
When to go:
Mid January to early March
Getting there:
From your starting location in the US or Europe you need to fly to Santiago, Chile (SCL) and then onwards to Puerto Montt, Chile (PMC). Some itineraries start in Puerto Montt and others start further south from Puerto Chacabuco, or Punta Arenas (PUQ) and Ushuaia (USH) in Argentina. Your charter boarding point will depend on which itinerary you choose.
Itineraries:
The Jesuit Route: takes you from Puerto Montt to Mechuque, Quehui Island, Achao, Quintupeu, Cahuelmo and then back to Puerto Montt – 6 days. This itinerary will take you on the same route that the Jesuit priests took to bring Christianity and build churches for the native Chilote Indians who still inhabit this wild area.
Continental Chiloe route: although Chiloe is primarily though of as an island (and birthplace of the potato), it has a wild and interesting continental area that is adjacent to several volcanoes, the route will take you from Puerto Montt to Caleta Andrade, Rio Negro, Quintupeu, Cahuelmo, Leptepu, Termas de Porcelana and back to Puerto Montt. This route takes you through the incredibly dense native forest vegetation with trees that are indigenous to Chile and also through the major shell-fish harvesting operations in that region. 5 day charter.
Laguna San Rafael route: Starts in Puerto Chacabuco and continues to Puerto Bonito, Laguna San Rafael, Caleta Gualas, Bahia Exploradores, Bahia Erasmo, Isla Huemules, Puerto Rosita, Punta Camello, and back to Puerto Chacabuco. Now this route is pretty far South so you will be surrounded by glaciers and small communities of local native people whose main occupation is still and has always been, fishing and hunting. – 7 day charter
Straits of Magellan route: Starting in Punta Arenas (Chile), this route partly follows the straits of Magellan, passing by Puerto Williams (the Southernmost town in the world) and ends in Ushuaia (Argentina). – 7 days.
